The Vancouver Canucks have issued a key update on Swedish forward Nils Hoglander on Saturday afternoon after he underwent surgery this past week.

As the preseason comes to a close around the National Hockey League and teams begin to prepare their rosters for the start of the 2025-26 campaign, the Vancouver Canucks will be without a big piece of their top-nine.
Earlier this week, the Vancouver Canucks announced that forward Nils Hoglander will miss significant time, roughly eight-to-ten weeks to be precise, due to a lower-body injury he sustained back on September 24th against the Calgary Flames.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Nils Höglander underwent successful lower body surgery, out 8-10 weeks." the Canucks said on X.

On Saturday afternoon, as Patrik Allvin was working his way through more roster decisions ahead of opening night, the Vancouver Canucks announced on social media that Nils Hoglander on injured reserve (IR), a move that was expected at some point before Monday at 2 p.m. PT.
"Vancouver also announced that they have placed Nils Höglander on injured reserve as he is expected to be out until December." The Hockey News said earlier on Saturday.

Hoglander, a native of Bocktrask, Sweden, is coming off a tough year in 2024-25, as were several members of the Vancouver Canucks, but he saw a drastic drop in the goal scoring department, going from 24 the year prior down to just eight.
As his new contract kicks in this season, the 24-year-old is determined to turn things around, but it looks like he'll have to wait until some point in mid-December, maybe even closer to Christmas, before he's able to make his 2025-26 debut and prove the doubters wrong.
"My goal now is to finish where I left off last year, so I feel pretty confident with that, and that's why I wanted to stay on the ice all summer too. I was skating way more this offseason." Hoglander said.

He added, "If you play with those guys, you want them to have the puck, and I go to the net. It's about sharing the puck. I still have to be that pretty player, but I also have to win pucks down low and go to the net. So I've just gotta learn, even if I play with those guys, I'm still gonna do that and not be too fancy."

The Vancouver Canucks will begin the 2025-26 season, without Nils Hoglander, on Thursday at Rogers Arena as they take on Rasmus Andersson & the Calgary Flames, with puck drop set for just after 7 p.m. PT.
