With the team's season-ending, Patrik Allvin must make many tough decisions if he wants to repeat this year's successes. With 11 contracts to renew, some of them among the team's top players in Elias Lindholm, Dakota Joshua, Nikita Zadorov, Filip Hronek and Arturs Silovs, Allvin will have to prioritize.
Many of them will be looking for important pay increases, and others could be looking to sign a team-friendly deal to remain in Vancouver and improve their chances at a Stanley Cup. In his exit interview, Allvin specifically named three players he really wanted to keep:
He will take another swing at re-signing Elias Lindholm and Filip Hronek. Still, as far as support players go, Zadorov, Myers and Joshua have been identified as the priorities.
With how he's played through the post-season, Zadorov is getting a raise, that's certain. Currently earning $3.75M per year; word has it that he could be looking at a $6M AAV. Dakota Joshua, for his part, lived up to every expectation Rick Tocchet had set for him when he called him the team's diamond in the rough. According to the analysts, the power forward's skillset could allow him to ask between $3M and $4M annually.
Looking at the veteran Tyler Myers, coming off his Jim Benning $30M deal, he played his best hockey since joining the Canucks. Under Foote's guidance and Tocchet's systems, Myers was as good as one could hope for. However, he's not delivering anywhere near the $6M he's getting paid and due to his love for the city, the team and the atmosphere, rumour has it that Myers would accept a team-friendly contract to remain with the Canucks.
