A National Hockey League insider has shared some big news this week regarding Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes & his potential availability on the trade market.
It's been a pretty wild week as trade rumors involving the Vancouver Canucks begin to ramp up following a report from Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, who shared on Monday night that the organization has made veteran players and pending unrestricted free agents available.
Many have been wondering what this news means for Quinn Hughes and his future with the Vancouver Canucks, with President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford commenting on the matter on Wednesday, telling Patrick Johnston of The Province that Hughes and his camp are aware of the direction the organization is taking.
"I believe Quinn and his agent are aware of the direction we want to go. And they're aware of the direction they want to go. Everybody wants to play on a winning team. But there's different reasons why people make decisions" Rutherford said.
NHL insider shares big news regarding Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes
While making an appearance on Halford and Brough on Wednesday morning, National Hockey League insider Frank Seravalli gave a big update regarding Quinn Hughes and his future in Vancouver.
Despite reports being out there suggesting that a decision and potential move could happen after the Olympics and closer to the trade deadline on March 6th, Seravalli says that those close to Quinn Hughes indicate that he is committed to the Vancouver Canucks and isn't planning on going anywhere at this time.
"The people closest to him that know him best say he's 100% committed to the #Canucks, and doesn't plan on going anywhere." Seravalli said.
Everyone knows how important Quinn Hughes is to the Vancouver Canucks, but with the 26-year-old eligible to sign a contract extension as of July 1st, the front office needs to know soon whether or not he plans on sticking around long-term or if he is set on testing the open market in the summer of 2027.
Vancouver's management group can absolutely not let that scenario happen - losing Hughes to the free agent market, and if feel that they don't have a chance to re-sign him, then a trade needs to happen in order to recoup assets for the future rather than letting him walk for nothing.
Rumors are going to continue to swirl about Quinn Hughes in the months ahead, but it feels like this situation is going to be punted until the offseason and that a trade before March 6th is unlikely.
