Reunion? Former Canucks Defenseman's Career Takes a Turn as he Reportedly Lands on NHL Trade Block

A former Vancouver Canucks defenseman has reportedly landed on the National Hockey League's trade block this summer as the Golden Knights look to clear cap space.
The Vegas Golden Knights made a big splash this summer, probably the biggest of any team in the National Hockey League, as they completed a sign-and-trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs for star forward Mitch Marner, giving him an eight-year, $96 million US deal.
The Vegas Golden Knights are nearly $8 million US above the NHL's salary cap for the 2025-26 campaign and even though that'll change when they place veteran defenseman Alex Pietrangelo on LTIR before the season starts, they'll still likely want some wiggle room to make more additions.
In order to clear some cap space this summer, one insider revealed recently that the team has placed a former Vancouver Canucks defenseman on the trade block and are actively looking to find him a new home.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Vegas Golden Knights are trying to find a new team for defenseman Ben Hutton as he enters the final year of his current contract, with the 32-year-old set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
"Vegas is trying to find a new home for defenceman Ben Hutton, who is in the final year of his contract."
Hutton, a native of Brockville, Ontario, had a tough 2024-25 campaign in Vegas due to an upper-body injury in November and at one point, was a healthy scratch for 35 consecutive games.
In 11 games with the Golden Knights, Hutton had just two assists, both of which came during the team's 2024-25 regular season finale, which happened to be a 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.
A former fifth round pick of the Vancouver Canucks, Hutton appeared in 276 games with the club between 2015 and 2019 where he registered 70 points (11 goals, 59 assists), 111 penalty minutes and was a minus-75.
Hutton likely would've been a good fit for the Vancouver Canucks in a third pairing/seventh defenseman role this season, especially with his low cap hit of $975,000, however with the signing of Pierre-Olivier Joseph last week, it seems unlikely we'll see a reunion this summer.
