That's it? - It is now known exactly what the New Jersey Devils offered the Vancouver Canucks for Quinn Hughes
The offer that the New Jersey Devils sent to the Vancouver Canucks for now-former captain Quinn Hughes has been revealed just days after the club moved the blueliner.
Before the Vancouver Canucks ultimately traded him to the Minnesota Wild, one team that had serious interest in former captain Quinn Hughes was the New Jersey Devils, who are home to his brothers Jack and Luke.
Earlier this month during Saturday Headlines on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the New Jersey Devils held talks with the Vancouver Canucks about Quinn Hughes, but he was unsure how far the two sides got or if a formal offer was even put forward by Tom Fitzgerald.
"Once Vancouver announced they were open for business, sent that email around to the league, I do believe there was a conversation, at least one, between the New Jersey Devils and Canucks about Quinn Hughes and I stress, I do not believe there is anything imminent, I don't even know that they're anywhere far along. But I do believe that conversation was had about where things stand and where they might be going." Friedman said.
New Jersey Devils' offer to Vancouver Canucks for Quinn Hughes has been revealed
In the last five days since Hughes was dealt, some of the trade offers and players involved in those deals to the Vancouver Canucks have been leaked and this week, we found out what sort of package the New Jersey Devils were able to put together for the 26-year-old defenseman.
According to Greg Wyshynski of ESPN, New Jersey's offer for Quinn Hughes included forward Dawson Mercer, defenseman Simon Nemec, defensive prospect Anton Silayev and a first round pick.
However, the Devils were unable to move money out to accommodate Hughes' contract, mainly due to a whopping 14 players on their roster having no-movement or no-trade clauses as part of their deals and ultimately, the Canucks decided to work out a deal with the Minnesota Wild and were happy with the package they put together.

At the end of the day, while Quinn Hughes would have loved the opportunity to play with his brothers and still could if he hits the free agent market in the summer of 2027, the package that the Minnesota Wild put together was much better and benefits the Vancouver Canucks a lot more than the one New Jersey reportedly submitted.
