The Vancouver Canucks are not finished after trading Quinn Hughes, Patrick Allvin has made it clear he wants the team to get younger and Kiefer Sherwood is one of the guys likely to be traded, but the return for Sherwood needs to include a first round draft pick.
"Dhaliwal said that the Canucks don't want to go past $3-3.5 million on a new contract with Sherwood and with the forward expected to get more in the summer, it makes sense to part ways with him soon, adding that Rutherford and Allvin are still trying to get a first round pick for him."-Jaxon
Kiefer Sherwood will not be traded if a first round pick is not in the conversation.
Daniel Wagner on X posted the news, that the Canucks will not settle for less than a first round pick in exchange for Sherwood. And for good reason Sherwood has been playing the best hockey of his career, despite the Canucks' struggles. He just recently scored his second hat-trick of the season against the New York Islanders.
The trade package *starts* with a first-round pick for Kiefer Sherwood. #Canucks
One would assume that a blue chip prospect needs to also be included in that package to make it a desirable deal for veteran forward. Sherwood is on pace for his best season of his career with already 16 goals and 20 points in 34 games, and his second in the league with 148 hits. His trade value is at an all time high and teams are taking notice.
With approximately a dozen teams showing interest in Kiefer Sherwood in the past month, it feels like the Vancouver Canucks will get what they're asking for for him, but we'll have to wait and see what that return actually looks like when the time comes.
