Top Goalie Prospect Arturs Silovs Forces Canucks GM Patrik Allvin's Hand Ahead of Next Season
Vancouver Canucks goaltender Arturs Silovs came up clutch once again on Monday and in doing so, tied an American Hockey League postseason record.
Silovs is basically leaving Canucks GM Patrik Allvin no choice to give him a look next season as the starter in net due to his play in between the pipes all season long and in the Playoffs for Abbotsford (AHL)
The 2024-25 season was a tough one for Arturs Silovs at the National Hockey League level as he was
called up and sent down on numerous occasions between Vancouver and Abbotsford, and in ten games with the big club, didn't fare so well as he sported a 3.65 goals against average and a save percentage of .861.
In the American Hockey League however, Silovs has been lights out for the Abbotsford Canucks and has taken his game to a whole other level in the Calder Cup Playoffs,
much like last year's Stanley Cup Playoffs with Vancouver.
Arturs Silovs ties American Hockey League record following Game 5 win
On Monday, the Abbotsford Canucks defeated the Colorado Eagles by a score of 5-0 in Game 5 of their third round series and the team now advances to their first Western Conference Final in team history.
With his 34-save performance on Monday, Arturs Silovs now has four shutout in the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs, including three during elimination games, proving how clutch he has been for Abbotsford.
"Arturs Silovs has recorded four shutouts in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Three of them have come in elimination games 🤯" Canucks Army said.
According to Dave Hall of Canucks Army, Arturs Silovs has now tied the American Hockey League record for most shutouts in a single postseason with four, joining
Petr Mrazek, Michal Neuvirth and Frederic Cassivi.
"With his fourth shutout, Arturs Silovs (#Canucks) is now tied for the most shutouts in a single playoff and has done so in half the game's:
• Petr Mrazek (2012-13) 24 gms
• Michal Neuvirth (2008-09) 22 gms
• Frederic Cassivi (2005-06) 21 gms
• Arturs Silovs (2024-25) 12 gms" Hall said on X.
With the way Arturs Silovs has been playing in the Calder Cup Playoffs, it's going to force Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin into a pretty difficult situation.
Vancouver has
Thatcher Demko and
Kevin Lankinen under contract for the 2025-26 season, so Arturs Silovs' path to the National Hockey League is blocked and there's certainly a chance that Allvin could use the 24-year-old as trade bait to help bring in
a second line centerman they desperately need.
