A National Hockey League insider has linked the Vancouver Canucks to a former first round pick that's in desperate need of a fresh start with a new organization.
As the Vancouver Canucks have notified to other teams around the league, they're trying to get younger and are willing to part with certain players in order to inject some more youth into their lineup, something that's a goal for GM Patrik Allvin amid the club's rebuild.
"We are transitioning into a rebuild here, acquiring younger players through the draft. Obviously, the draft is really important for us. Since Jim and I got [here] three years ago, we've definitely always emphasized on getting younger." Allvin said.
Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford will have plenty of options to consider in the next couple weeks and with the trade deadline looming, it looks like the club might have their eyes on a former first round pick of the New York Rangers.

While making an appearance on Sekeres and Price last Friday, NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal gave an update on the Vancouver Canucks' trade plans and mentioned that the club has shown interest in former first round pick Brennan Othmann, as the New York Rangers have announced plans to retool.
Othmann, 23, was selected in the first round by the Rangers back in 2021, but has been limited to just 41 games in the National Hockey League, spending the majority of his time with their American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Earlier this season, prior to the club announcing their retooling plans, the New York Rangers reportedly made Brennan Othmann available on the trade market, with the Vancouver Canucks and other clubs monitoring the situation over the last few months.
"It's early and most teams try to wait until making moves, but there is at least one name gaining traction out there.
That's New York Rangers prospect Brennan Othmann." NHL insider Elliotte Friedman said back in October.
He added, "Othmann was sent down to AHL Hartford after failing to make the NHL team, and, since that occurred, there's been conversations with other clubs about his future.
The Rangers have a lot on the wings and it simply may be that he needs a fresh start elsewhere."

So far this season, Othmann has one goal, nine penalty minutes and is a minus-five in 16 games with the New York Rangers, along with 14 points (six goals, eight assists), 45 penalty minutes and is a minus-nine in 23 games in the American Hockey League.
While Brennan Othamnn certainly isn't playing horrible this season, the Vancouver Canucks could have the opportunity to buy low on him and he's someone who would be a perfect third liner for their rebuild as he's not afraid to play physical and get into the dirty areas.
