A former New York Rangers first round pick is reportedly available for trade early on in the 2025-26 season and could potentially be an option for GM Patrik Allvin.

After losing Swedish forward Nils Hoglander due to an injury that'll keep him out until some point in December, the Vancouver Canucks have been left with a pretty big hole to fill in their middle-six.
Through three games, the Canucks have just one win and eight goals for, but it appears that Patrik Allvin is scouring the trade market for some forward help.
"The Vancouver Canucks are believed to be looking for a middle-six forward to add to their roster due to winger Nils Hoglander missing the next eight-to-ten weeks because of an injury. Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has been exploring options, according to separate league sources, but it is unclear if a move is imminent." David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported recently.

New York Rangers first round pick could be potential trade option for Vancouver Canucks

In recent weeks, the Vancouver Canucks have been linked to a few options as their search for help on forward continues, with Patrik Allvin reportedly in the mix for Chicago Blackhawks first round pick Lukas Reichel.
Flash forward to today, October 16th, and there's another first round pick that might be available to the Vancouver Canucks and other teams around the National Hockey League - New York Rangers prospect Brennan Othmann.
In an article for Sportsnet on Thursday, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared that Brennan Othmann's name is "generating traction" around the league this week after the New York Rangers decided to assign him to the American Hockey League before opening night.
"It's early and most teams try to wait until making moves, but there is at least one name gaining traction out there.

That's New York Rangers prospect Brennan Othmann." Friedman said.

He went on to add, "Othmann was sent down to AHL Hartford after failing to make the NHL team, and, since that occurred, there's been conversations with other clubs about his future.

The Rangers have a lot on the wings and it simply may be that he needs a fresh start elsewhere."

Othmann, a native of Pickering, Ontario, was selected 16th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft and has made 25 appearance with the Rangers, registering just two assists.
If a deal occurs, the 22-year-old won't the first former first round pick that the New York Rangers have dealt, following Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken last season and Vitali Kravtsov, who was acquired by the Vancouver Canucks in February of 2023.
