Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes has finally opened up about trade rumors that have involved him for a good chunk of the NHL's offseason.

If you're a Vancouver Canucks fan and you've been on social media even just for a tiny portion of the offseason, you'll know that Quinn Hughes' name has been brought up in trade rumors.
It all started back in April when Jim Rutherford told reporters that Quinn Hughes' future might not come down to money or term, with the team's captain expressing a desire to suit up with his brothers at some point during his career in the National Hockey League.
"It may not boil down to money with [Quinn]. He said before he wants to play with his brothers. That would be partly out of our control. In our control if we brought his brothers here." Rutherford said.

A little over four months later, Quinn Hughes has opened up about those trade rumors involving his name, telling Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre that he can handle the noise and still play at an elite level regardless of what's going on off the ice, adding that he's taking things day-by-day for now.
"One thing I'm really good at - or have gotten good at - is I'm very present. I can't even sign for another year, so there's nothing I can do. As far as the noise (about his future), I can handle the noise. That's why I'm the captain of the team, because I can handle these things and I can play at an elite level and it doesn't matter what's going on around me." Hughes said.

He added, "And as far as the noise around my teammates, I'm going to try to help everyone else, too, and be as good a leader as I can be. Noise doesn't bother me. It's a long year, and I'm just going to be day-to-day and focus on the short term. That's the truth, honestly."

The 2025-26 campaign is a big one for the Vancouver Canucks as they'll want to show their captain that they're going to be a competitive team in the Pacific Division and Western Conference for years to come and want him to believe that he has a chance at winning a Stanley Cup in British Columbia.
Hughes, 25, is eligible to sign a contract extension with the club starting on July 1st, 2026 and thanks to the new CBA that begins in a little over 12 months, the Vancouver Canucks will only have a three month window to get him locked up to an eight-year deal before the maximum length for contracts changes to seven years as of September 16th, 2026.
There's no question that the Vancouver Canucks are going to do everything in their power to get an extension done with Quinn Hughes next summer, but it'll come down to the player on if he's ready and willing to put pen-to-paper on a new contract.
