A former Stanley Cup champion has been mentioned as a potential professional tryout (PTO) option for the Vancouver Canucks ahead of training camp in a couple weeks.

In just over two weeks, Vancouver Canucks players, prospects and staff will converge in Penticton, British Columbia for the start of training camp, with some big questions needing to be answered before the puck drops on the 2025-26 season for the club on October 9th.
It's been pretty quiet on the professional tryout front over the last couple of weeks, with just six players going down that route including Vancouver native Milan Lucic, but could we see the Canucks bring a player or two to camp on a PTO?

Former Stanley Cup champion mentioned as potential PTO option for Vancouver Canucks

In an article for The Hockey News this week, Adam Kierszenblat mentioned that 2019 Stanley Cup champion and former first round pick Robby Fabbri could be a potential PTO option for Patrik Allvin in the weeks ahead.
Fabbri, 29, became an unrestricted free agent back on July 1st and after a pretty subpar season with the Anaheim Ducks where he had 16 points in 44 games while earning $4 million, it's not too much of a surprise that he's still available, although, it's a bit of a shock that he hasn't even landed a PTO just yet.
The Mississauga, Ontario native has over 400 games of NHL experience under his belt and even though the Vancouver Canucks have a bit of a logjam in the bottom-six as things stand right, bringing him to camp on a PTO could push those players competing for a roster spot to be better and take their own game to an entirely new level, making for an interesting decision that Adam Foote would need to make before opening night rosters are due to the league.
"A benefit of bringing in Fabbri on a PTO is that it adds another layer of competition in camp. The now-former Ducks center has played 442 regular-season games and won the Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues in 2019. Fabbri also has a connection with Vancouver, as Todd Harvey, who is currently the organization's Director of Amateur Scouting, was his assistant coach during his time in the OHL with the Guelph Storm." Kierszenblat said.

In 442 games in the National Hockey League with the St. Louis Blues, Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks, Fabbri has 216 points (106 goals, 110 assists) and is two seasons removed from tying a career-high in goals with 18.
It's going to be interesting to see what the next couple of weeks have in store for Patrik Allvin on the roster front and if the Canucks are to sign anyone to a PTO before camp, expect news on that within the next 10-14 days.
