The Vancouver Canucks have announced several roster moves on Monday afternoon following an injury sustained by forward Brock Boeser against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
At the tail end of Sunday night's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser found himself on the receiving end of a dangerous hit from Bryan Rust, which certainly didn't sit well with Head Coach Adam Foote.
"It was a headshot. It was shoulder and his head. I'm sure the league will look at it because it was, even though he may have been desperate to get Boes down because it was a scrum at the net, I still think it was something that you got to be in control of your body. I thought it was a little bit of a vicious, vicious hit to the head." Foote said post-game.
Earlier today, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety confirmed that Bryan Rust, who has never received supplemental discipline in his career, will face a hearing for the hit.
"Pittsburgh's Bryan Rust will have a hearing for an illegal check to the head against Vancouver's Brock Boeser. Date and time TBD." the NHL's Department of Player Safety said on X.
Vancouver Canucks announce several roster moves after Brock Boeser's injury
Shortly after noon on Monday, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they've placed forward Brock Boeser and defenseman Zeev Buium on injured reserve retroactive to January 25th, meaning the earliest they can come off is February 1st - just a few days before the NHL's Olympic break.
The specific injuries to Brock Boeser and Zeev Buium, the latter of whom took a puck to the face during Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh, are not known at the moment, but more details should come out in the days ahead.
With Boeser and Buium out for at least the next seven days, the Vancouver Canucks have called up top prospect Jonathan Lekkerimaki, as well as defenseman Victor Mancini from the American Hockey League.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Brock Boeser and D Zeev Buium have been placed on IR (retroactive to Jan. 25) and F Jonathan Lekkerimäki and D Victor Mancini have been recalled from Abbotsford (AHL)." the Canucks said on X.
Lekkerimaki, 21, has been lights out for the Abbotsford Canucks this season and has earned this call-up to the NHL after registering ten goals and six assists in 16 games.
As for Victor Mancini, he's appeared in nine games already this season in the National Hockey League, most recently against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, January 17th where he was a minus-two with 16:26 TOI.
The Canucks will be back in action tomorrow night as they take on the San Jose Sharks at 7 p.m. PT on Sportsnet Pacific.
