With the lack of free agents and teams willing to make a deal with the Vancouver Canucks this offseason, general manager Patrik Allvin might be now looking to the Montreal Canadiens to solve their issues at the center position.
With head coach Rick Tocchet leaving for the Philadelphia Flyers, a highly publicize drama with J.T. that plagued the 2024-25 season and Captain Quinn Hughes future up in the air, the Vancouver Canucks are on the bring of a full scale meltdown.
Marco D'Amico cited an anonymous league source, stating:
"It's such a delicate situation in Vancouver that it feels they could go either way with this, depending on how they start the season. Ever since Rutherford said what he said, everyone is just waiting to see what happens with them."
With all that was mentioned above, all reports basically confirmed that free agents do not want to sign in Vancouver, which means they will rely on Allvin to make some strong offers to team in order to fill the holes in the top-6.
Vancouver Canucks should consider going after Kirby Dach or Alex Newhook of the Montreal Canadiens
With the teams limited pieces to work with, two names from the Montreal Candiens have come to the surface that could be good options for GM Patrik Allvin to consider.
Young forwards Alex Newhook and Kirby Dach have not had their best stint since joining the Canadiens and could be looking for a new opportunity since they have prospects in the pipeline ready for a shot in the NHL.
They still both have tremendous upside in which they could move up and down the lineup to fit what the Canucks need, and because of them taking a step back, they could land the for a reasonable return.
However, two players who could be looking for fresh starts may be Alex Newhook and Kirby Dach. Both can play centre and be physical, but both have taken a step back with the Habs. With Ivan Demidov now in Montreal, along with the acquisition of Zach Bolduc, it's conceivable that Newhook or Dach could be dealt. - Trevor Beggs
