Vancouver Canucks Drawing Heavy Criticism After Price Gouging Fans For Training Camp Tickets
The Vancouver Canucks are drawing heavy criticism on social media after a questionable decision was made regarding their upcoming training camp in Penticton.
In 14 days, Vancouver Canucks players, prospects and staff members will all flock to Penticton, British Columbia
for the start of the team's training camp - a four-day event that'll wrap up on September 21st, the same day the club will open up their preseason slate against the Seattle Kraken.
There's a bit more attention on this year's training camp than any other year, especially since it'll be
Adam Foote's first as bench boss and the team is hoping to put last year's drama and inconsistency behind them.
Every year, fans are able to attend the team's training camp, no matter where it's held, with practices, off-ice events and even a blue vs white scrimmage on the itinerary, but this time around, some supporters are not happy with a decision made by the organization.
Vancouver Canucks draw heavy criticism over training camp decision
On Thursday afternoon, the Vancouver Canucks released more details for their 2025 training camp, which will feature full practices on Thursday and Friday, a scrimmage on Saturday and a smaller practice to wrap things up on Sunday.
"All on-ice activities will take place at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) from September 18-21, featuring daily skates and a Blue - White scrimmage on Saturday, September 20.
In addition to daily skates, there will be several community activities during Training Camp for fans to participate in, including a Party on the Plaza and special appearances from FIN and Canucks alumni." the Canucks said.
Tickets will go on-sale starting Tuesday morning, with entrance to the first two days costing $13 CAD and Sunday's smaller practice coming in at $6.50 per person, both prices aren't too bad when considering that some clubs don't allow fans in training camp practices at all.
However, it's the cost of the team's Blue vs White scrimmage on Saturday, September 20th that is irking their fans, with the price per person being $40 CAD - an $8 increase from last year.
"$32 for the scrimmage last September, $40 this year. Only way to describe it is greed. A lot of people's only chance to see their team up close all year and tickets are $40 each for a scrimmage. Gross." Ryan Henderson of Donnie & Dhali said.
"In 2023, training camp was in Victoria again, with a $5 entrance fee each day, with all proceeds going to the Moose Hide Campaign, an indigenous-led charity that aims to end gender-based violence." Wagner said.
In the team's press release on Thursday, there was no mention of the proceeds from admission going to any charity, which is honestly quite frustrating as there's no need for an organization
that's worth over 1.5 billion dollars to be pocketing $40 CAD per fan for a training camp scrimmage.
