As the Vancouver Canucks sit at home watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs unfold, it's time to take a look back at some major potential trades that never came to fruition that would have made big differences in the outcome of the season, one of which includes a failed trade with the Carolina Hurricanes.

After winning the Western Division during the 2023-2024 NHL season, the expectations for the Canucks to make a serious run for the Stanley Cup was higher than ever.
In conjunction with constant rumors, locker room drama, injuries and the lack of initiative at the NHL deadline, the Canucks became a major let down to the media and fans base, proving more moves should have been made by general manager Patrik Allvin.

Failed trade between the Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes proves Patrik Allvin made a mistake

At the center of all the drama and issues the Canucks faced this season was none other than "superstar" forward Elias Pettersson.
Along with signing a monster deal and not living up to his contract by showcasing a disappointing offensive producing season, he was a apart of a highly public feud with former teammate J.T. Miller.
When the team was deciding whether to trade Miller or Pettersson, they ultimately decided to go with the former, proving the Canucks made a major mistake, especially with Allvin having a trade on the table for Martin Necas, especially with Allvin having a trade on the table for Martin Necas, who has lit up the lamp as a member of the Colorado Avalanche.
On Friday, Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali was a guest on Halford and Brough in the Morning on Sportsnet 650 radio where he said that if that trade between Vancouver and Carolina went through, it would've changed the Canucks' season.
"The Necas/Petey deal would have flipped everything." Dhaliwal said.
If the Canucks were to trade Elias Pettersson to the Carolina Hurricanes for Martin Necas back in January, not only could it have shed his contract, but the season could have been totally different.
In comparison, in 79 games, Martin Necas scored 27 goals and 56 assists for 83 points as an over a point per game player making only $6.5 million per season .
While Elias Pettersson makes more than double his salary ($11.6 million) scoring just 15 goals and 35 assists for 45 points in 64 games.
It really is starting to look like the Canucks should have done more to make this deal come to fruition...
