Vancouver Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk recently opened up about a feud between Elias Pettersson & J.T. Miller that went on for a good chunk of the 2024-25 season.

If you were to ask any Vancouver Canucks fan to describe the 2024-25 campaign, they'll likely do so using the following three words - Drama, inconstant, injuries.
All three played a big role in the club ultimately missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but it was a reported feud between now-former teammates Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller that stole the headlines around the National Hockey League all season long.
With the feud now in the past, a number of Vancouver Canucks have opened up about the topic in recent months including goaltender Thatcher Demko, defenseman Tyler Myers and most recently, forward Jake DeBrusk, which led to quite an eventful first season in the organization for him.

This week, Jake DeBrusk sat down with Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal where he spoke about his first season as a Vancouver Canucks and of course, that reported feud between Elias Pettersson, who was a big reason why he signed with the club last summer and J.T. Miller, who the 28-year-old said was quite gracious to him before Patrik Allvin completed a trade with the New York Rangers.
According to DeBrusk, he felt like he was the "middle man" between Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller at times last season.
"J.T. had me over for dinner a couple of times and I love him a lot. I was sitting beside Petey in the dressing room and we hung out a lot. It became a thing where I was almost the middle man." DeBrusk said.

He added, "In all fairness I wish the best for J.T. and his family, They welcomed me. For me it's unfortunate. I wanted to play longer with them but it's not my decision. Trades happen all the time."

The focus of Jake DeBrusk and the rest of the Vancouver Canucks is on the 2025-26 season now and trying to find a way back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, something the Edmonton native talked about in early August.
""I think wins help. I think getting wins early helps. Take's some of those questions out of the way. But I think with just everything that happened last year, I think the biggest thing for our team is figure out what our identity wants to be as a team and then stick with that through the highs and the lows of the season." DeBrusk said.

He added, "Obviously, different scenario, but no one gave us a chance, and it doesn't seem like everyone, you know, I feel like the opinion is something we can use to our advantage inside the room in terms of looking forward to this season can be. It's kind of what we make it. I think the biggest thing is getting closer as a team. Me coming in my second year. Obviously, a lot has happened in the first year, and it's done with. Everyone starts off as zeros and a couple wins would help and probably some overtime wins. I think that really killed us last year."

Getting off to the winning start to the 2025-26 season will be massive for Jake DeBrusk and the Vancouver Canucks and thankfully, they'll be on home ice when the puck drops on the new campaign as they host the Calgary Flames on Thursday, October 9th.
