Former Vancouver Canucks president and legend Trevor Linden opened up yesterday, issuing some interesting comments about the team's decision to acquire Evander Kane from the Edmonton Oilers after his history of issues.
The 2024-2025 NHL season for the Vancouver Canucks was all but smooth sailing, dealing with a lack of production on the ice, injuries and most notably some highly publicized rifts within the locker room that plagued the year.
Trevor Linden has some choice words towards Evander Kane after being acquired by the Vancouver Canucks
Trevor Linden reacts to the news that the Canucks traded for Evander Kane.
The 33-year-old stayed out of trouble in Edmonton, that hasn't been the case in the past, and bringing him into a Canucks dressing room that had its fair share of drama last season seems to be a concerning factor for former team president Trevor Linden.
Soon after the Kane trade was finalized, former Canucks Captain and President Trevor Linden opened up, highlighting concerns he has about Kane's past issues and personably, especially after what Vancouver endured with
Elias Pettersson and
J.T. Miller last season.
«You talk about the dressing room, and there have certainly been those issues in Evander's past,» Linden said in an appearance on Global BC. «Having said that, he's a guy that can bring a certain type of hockey to that locker room. I'm sure Edmonton wanted to move salary out, and Vancouver was able to take salary on.
He continued saying that although it is somewhat of a risk, adding a player of his caliber and type of physical play can be exactly what the Canucks need hopping back and fourth the bottomm-6 to the top-6 in order to compete for another Pacific title.
«For Edmonton to trade him to a divisional rival is interesting. But, for Vancouver, they, I think, are in a win-now type of mode Adding a player like this, maybe that puts them in a position to compete for the Pacific Division again, which is very possible.»
Linden's concerns about Kane's past getting mixed up within the already volatile Canucks locker room has a lot of merit, but in his two seasons with Edmonton, he showed that he could stay out of headlines for office issues, and that is exactly what the Vancouver needs.
