An insider believes that a division rival of the Vancouver Canucks could enter the mix for forward Kiefer Sherwood as both a trade & free agent option for the club.

After the Vancouver Canucks decided to make all of their pending unrestricted free agents available on the trade market, everyone's attention when right to Kiefer Sherwood, who as of Tuesday morning, leads the team in goals with 12 in 26 games, although he hasn't scored since November 16th in Tampa Bay.
As everyone expected, Kiefer Sherwood's name was mentioned in trade rumors almost immediately following Elliotte Friedman's report last week, with the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens and New York Islanders among those linked to the Columbus, Ohio native recently.
"They have 100 percent called on both players. They want scoring and believe that with some more, this team can definitely stay in the race and make some noise." A source said to James Murphy of RG.org.

"I was told the Islanders, Sabres, and Red Wings also expressed interest in Sherwood, too." Another source informed Murphy.

While the expectation is that the Vancouver Canucks won't let teams talk to Kiefer Sherwood about a contract extension and that he'll be strictly a rental, his future beyond the 2025-26 season and where he may end up is going to be a hot topic next summer.
During an appearance on Sekeres and Price recently, TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger mentions that the San Jose Sharks could be a realistic landing spot for Kiefer Sherwood if he decides to hit the free agent market because of the financial flexibility the club has, with $54,444,999 available in projected cap space for the 2026-27 campaign, according to PuckPedia.
"Kiefer Sherwood deserves to get paid. He deserves to get paid. At this stage of his career, his age, all of those things, he needs to hit the home run and his play on the ice is dictating he's going to put himself in a real nice spot. The San Jose Sharks are going to have that financial wherewithal right?" Dreger said.
It's going to be interesting to see where Kiefer Sherwood ends up as while Vancouver Canucks fans would love him to stick around, the potential return Patrik Allvin could receive in a trade between now and March 6th will be too hard to pass on, with some reports suggesting that he could net the club a first round pick.
The San Jose Sharks currently occupy the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, with North Vancouver's Macklin Celebrini leading the way, but it's hard to see them remaining in the mix for a playoff spot until the trade deadline in early March and are probably reluctant to move either of their first round picks in 2026, making Kiefer Sherwood a more realistic target for them as a free agent starting on Canada Day.
