The Vancouver Canucks have indeed confirmed all the rumours as they officially made the unpopular decision to trade fan favorite power forward, Dakota Joshua to the Toronto Maple Leafs for basically nothing.

General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have acquired a 4th round pick in the 2028 NHL Entry Draft from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Dakota Joshua.
Just before NHL free-agency on July first, the first rumors reported about the Vancouver Canucks looking to move Dakota Joshua were to make cap space to re-sign Pius Suter, which ultimately did not turn out the way they wanted as he signed with the St. Louis Blues.
But, even with Suter departing form the organization, Joshua's name has been floating around a ton for the exact same reasons, in order to make room on their pay role to solidify their forward group by signing some remaining big unrestricted free-agents.
Jack Roslovic and Victor Olofsson are now the top UFA's available that could vastly improve the Canucks offensive production

Dakota Joshua and Teddy Blueger could be available on the trade market if the Canucks need to open up cap space to execute something larger. Joshua has a 12-team no-trade list. He's also dealt with a lingering hip injury, originally sustained in the latter half of this season." Drance and Dhaliwal said.

Coming off Cancer Surgery and having a down season, Dakota Joshua was a beloved member of the Canucks and fans are going to be sad to see him go and he was gearing up for a big bounce back season.
He really struggled this past season, but was coming off an offseason where he was diagnosed with cancer and had surgery to fix it

The 6'3" physical forward scored 7 goals and 7 assists for 15 points in 57 games in 2024-25.
Now, with $3.2 million in cap space, the Canucks are looking to grab a highly touted UFA off the market.
