Vancouver Canucks defenseman Marcus Pettersson is set to represent his nation on home ice at the upcoming IIHF World Championship, which begins on Friday, May 9th.

The Vancouver Canucks' season may be over, but that doesn't mean their players are done for the year just yet with the 2025 IIHF World Hockey Championship set to get underway in a little less than two weeks.
In the last ten days, a trio of Vancouver Canucks have been named to their respective nation's rosters for the IIHF World Championship including Filip Hronek (Czechia), Conor Garland (USA) and Drew O'Connor (USA) and now, there's going to be a fourth member of the team at the tournament.

Marcus Pettersson to represent Sweden at IIHF World Championship

In a post on their social media account on Saturday, the Swedish men's national team announced that they've beefed up their roster with some NHL talent and among those mentioned was Vancouver Canucks defenseman Marcus Pettersson.
Along with Marcus Pettersson, Sweden will have Rasmus Andersson, William Eklund, Adam Larsson, Isac Lundestrom and Alexander Wennberg on their roster for the tournament.
"We continue to build 🔨
Rasmus Andersson, Adam Larsson, Marcus Pettersson, Alexander Wennberg, William Eklund and Isac Lundestrom join Tre Kronor 👏👏👏"
Not only will Marcus Pettersson be playing at the IIHF World Championship, he'll also be representing Sweden at an exhibition tournament called the Czech Hockey Games starting on May 1st with Vancouver Canucks prospect Tom Willander also on the roster.
Pettersson, 28, has represented Sweden on a number of occasions, most recently at last year's IIHF World Championship in Czechia where he helped the nation bring home a bronze medal.
The Skelleftea native played quite well for the Canucks in a top-four role after being acquired from Pittsburgh in late January and earned a six-year extension with Vancouver less than a week later.
Team Sweden will begin their quest for a third straight medal at the IIHF World Championship starting on May 9th when they take on Slovakia at 11:20 am PT on TSN.
