The Vancouver Canucks organization's AHL Affiliate in Abbottsford have announced the departure of 2024-25 Calder Cup Champion Tristen Nielsen after not being offered a qualifying contract.

It has not been the most successful offseason for general manager Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks as they have failed to accomplish what they set out to do this offseason and find an upgraded second-line center.
They at least were able to re-sign stars Brock Boeser, Thatcher Demko and Conor Garland to multi-year contracts, which was a pleasant turn of events after all the rumours pointed to the fact that Boeser was not going to be returning.

Abbotsford Canucks announce the departure of championship forward Tristen Nielsen

After a historic season to remember under rookie head coach and former Vancouver Canucks forward Manny Malhotra, where he managed to take the organizations AHL affiliate all the way and win the 2024-25 Calder Cup, The organization chose to make qualifying offers to a lot of their key players.
Some include Dino Kambeitz, Cooper Walker, along with defenseman Joe Arntsen, Ben Berard, Zach Okabe, as well as goaltender Jonathan Lemieux.

Abbotsford Canucks General Manager, Ryan Johnson, announced today the following extensions.

- Dino Kambeitz to a one-year contract extension through the 2025-26 AHL season
- Cooper Walker to a two-year contract extension through the 2026-27 AHL season
- Joe Arntsen to two-year contract extension through the 2026-27 AHL season" Abbotsford Canucks said.
Subsequently, they also did not issue qualifying offers to Cole McWard, Christian Felton, Ty Glover and most notably Tristen Nielsen, who the Abbotsford Canucks announced the departure of on Saturday.
After not being re-signed, he was awarded a one-year, minor league contract with he Colorado Eagles of the Colorado Avalanche organization.

Nielsen was a key member of the Canucks' Calder Cup run, scoring 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points in 67 games, along with adding another 5 goals and 4 assists for 9 points during the playoffs.
