Vancouver Canucks Organization Releases Former NCAA Champion Just One Week After Signing Him

The Vancouver Canucks organization has announced that they've released a former NCAA champion one week after signing him to a contract for the 2025-26 season.

From the National Hockey League all the way down to the ECHL, the Vancouver Canucks organization has had a very busy start to the 2025-26 season, especially off the ice as all three clubs have been forced to make additions to their respective rosters make additions to their respective rosters due to injury issues.
In Kalamazoo, Vancouver's ECHL affiliate, they've had a tough start to the year as they sit last in the Eastern Conference with a 1-2-0 record through three games and this week, have made a bit of a surprising decision regarding a player they just signed last weekend.

In a post on the ECHL's website on Thursday, it was announced that the Kalamazoo Wings have released centerman Luke Morgan from his contract, with the forward now eligible to be claimed off waivers and if he's not, he'll become a free agent.
The ECHL's transaction log for October 30th also notes that Luke Morgan was dealing with an injury and was activated from three-day injured reserve before being released by his club.

Morgan, a native of Brighton, Michigan, signed signed a one-year contract with the Kalamazoo Wings last Saturday, rejoining the team he spent the previous two-and-a-half seasons with.
"The Kalamazoo Wings, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks, announced Saturday that forward Luke Morgan has signed a Standard Player Contract with the team." the club said.

Morgan was limited to just one game during his time with the Wings this season, where he went point-less, had no penalty minutes and had an even-rating.
In 109 games as a member of the Kalamazoo Wings, Morgan had 53 points (17 goals, 36 assists), 14 penalty minutes and was a plus-11.
The Kalamazoo Wings will be back in action tonight as they head out on the road to take on the Bloomington Bison, with puck drop set for 5 p.m. PT (7 p.m. local).
