An NHL insider has given an unfortunate update on the Vancouver Canucks and their pursuit of Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram, who is available for trade.

The offseason has quieted down quite a bit in recent days, but some insiders are expecting trade action to be busier this summer than previous years and among the names that have been in the thick of rumors for several weeks now is Bowen Byram of the Buffalo Sabres.
Vancouver has been linked to the Vancouver Canucks this summer, with the Cranbrook, British Columbia reportedly wanting to play in his home province.
While Vancouver has had interest in the former first round pick, an NHL insider has given an update on the potential of him being dealt to the Canucks this summer.

Insider gives update about Vancouver Canucks & defenseman Bowen Byram

Earlier this week, NHL insider David Pagnotta was a guest on Sekeres and Price where he gave an update on a number of players around the league that could be available for trade, including the aforementioned Bowen Byram.
According to David Pagnotta, Bowen Byram is still available on the trade market and is wanting a change of scenery, however it doesn't look like it'll be with the Vancouver Canucks as Patrik Allvin is reportedly done with trying to acquire the 2019 fourth overall pick.
Pagnotta also shared that the Buffalo Sabres spoke with the Vancouver Canucks again about an Elias Pettersson trade at some point in the spring/early summer and Bowen Byram's name was brought up then, connecting him to the team.
While Bowen Byram would've been a solid fit for the Vancouver Canucks and could play a top-four role, at this time there's just no room for him on the NHL roster and with younger players like Elias Pettersson, Victor Mancini and top prospect Tom Willander all pushing for a spot in the opening night lineup, it wouldn't make much sense to bring in anyone else on the blueline.
It should be interesting to see where Bowen Byram ends up this summer, if he's traded at all, because there won't be a shortage of teams vying for his services.
Byram and the Sabres are heading to arbitration later this month or in early August (date to be confirmed) after the team elected to head down that route, which eliminates the possibility of someone swooping in for an offer sheet, but perhaps after the hearing, we could see a trade come to fruition.
