The Vancouver Canucks keep going from bad to worse, now they are at the bottom of the NHL in goals expected 5v5, for players like Brock Boeser, Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson this is unacceptable.
The Seattle Kraken are the team right above from them, however they have managed to make it work, being second in the Pacific Division.
"The Daily Hive reported on the abymsal goal expectancy of the Canucks this season. But even worse is there goals against expected, they have given up the third most scoring chances in the NHL so far this season. The Canucks were supposed to be one of the better defensive teams in the league but hasn't happened."-Stinson
Canucks dead last in offensive production.
Taj on X posted the extremely disappointing stat with the Canucks. It's one thing to see it on the ice, but when it gets shown on a table and you're dead last, it's a way worse feeling.
Canucks dead last at 41%.
That's just embarrassing.
That's just embarrassing.
As we can see the top teams in the NHL the Colorado Avalanche, and the Carolina Hurricanes, top that list in expected goals 5v5. Interestingly the Avalanche have one of the worst power plays in the NHL, it's their 5v5 play that makes them so good. And for the Canucks it's the complete opposite.
Heading into the season, the concern was that the Canucks would struggle to score goals and create offence. That fear has been validated. Vancouver currently ranks 23rd overall in shots per game and 27th in actual goals scored, inept offence from the Canucks isn't a surprise.
The Canucks have been pitiful this season so far, and the stats suggest it's going to stay this way the rest of the season. If head office doesn't make any changes it could be a very long season for the fans.
