Vancouver Canucks reportedly circle major NY Rangers targets led by ex-first overall selection

An NHL insider says that Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin is interested in a pair of players from the New York Rangers including a former first overall pick.
One of the toughest things to do in the National Hockey League is rebuild and rebuild successfully, something that the Vancouver Canucks are hoping to do over the next few years.
"We are transitioning into a rebuild here, acquiring younger players through the draft. Obviously, the draft is really important for us. Since Jim and I got [here] three years ago, we've definitely always emphasized on getting younger." Patrik Allvin said.
You need to have the right pieces in place - a great goaltender and solid core and if the Vancouver Canucks want to win a Stanley Cup anytime soon, they know they'll need to add some more young talent to this roster in the coming months.
Pair of New York Rangers, including ex-first overall pick, drawing interest from Vancouver Canucks
While the Vancouver Canucks are rebuilding, the the New York Rangers are opting to retool with the hopes of being competitive next season.
Several members of the New York Rangers have found themselves in the rumor mill since General Manager Chris Drury announced the retool, with Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trochek expected to draw the most interest, while former Vancouver Canuck J.T. Miller is expected to remain with the club.
"What I was told today is that Miller has no intention of waiving his no-move clause, and the Rangers have no intention of going to him and asking to waive it. They traded for him last year, they made him captain, and they still believe in the reasons why they made that move. Miller should not be part of whatever exodus of players leaves New York." TSN's Pierre LeBrun reported.
New York isn't afraid to make a big splash and with Saturday marking the one-year anniversary of the J.T. Miller trade, perhaps the two teams could come together once again and according to one insider, a couple of Rangers players are drawing interest from the Canucks.
While making an appearance on Halford and Brough, NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal revealed that former first overall pick Alexis Lafreniere and defenseman Braden Schneider are two players that the Vancouver Canucks have liked in the past and reportedly still do, however he's unclear if there's anything going on at the moment between the two clubs.
Dhaliwal added that Braden Schneider would have been part of the return for Quinn Hughes, if the Canucks and Rangers were to agree to a deal late last year, while Vancouver has been linked to Alexis Lafreniere dating back to January of 2023.
With the Rangers wanting to turn things around quickly, it would be interesting to see if they would want someone like Jake DeBrusk or Conor Garland, along with another asset or two, for Alexis Lafreniere, who would immediately jump into Vancouver's top-six.
