An insider believes that the Vancouver Canucks may be one of the team's to check in on a controversial forward who is looking to return to the National Hockey League.

It's been a solid start to the 2025-26 season for the Vancouver Canucks as Adam Foote's group sit third in the Pacific Division with a 4-2-0 record through six games and have won three in a row on the road.
There's still a long way to go in the season and a lot can happen between now and March 6th, the NHL's trade deadline, but the Vancouver Canucks are hoping to get ahead of the curve, with Patrik Allvin reportedly exploring his options on the trade market.
"I do think the Canucks...are going to start just looking around for a mid six, bottom six type of forward; they started poking around, I think they'll escalate that a little bit." David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period said at the end of September.

Insider believes Vancouver Canucks may be among teams to check in on controversial forward

Right now, as mentioned by David Pagnotta, the Vancouver Canucks are focused on adding a middle-six forward due to the injury due to the injury to forward Nils Hoglander and it looks like there's one option that's causing mixed feelings among the fan base.
During a recent appearance on Halford & Brough, NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal shared that he wouldn't surprised if the Vancouver Canucks have checked in on forward Alex Formenton.
"Dhaliwal said he wouldn't be surprised if Canucks have checked in on Alex Formenton." @Taj1944 said.

Formenton, 26, was among five former NHLers that were acquitted following the Hockey Canada s*xual assault trial in London, Ontario this summer and became eligible to sign a new contract as of October 15th, with the earliest possible return being December 1st.
The Barrie, Ontario native signed a short-term contract in early September to return to Switzerland where he's suiting up for HC Ambri-Piotta, where he has four points (two goals, two assists), eight penalty minutes and minus-eight.
If the Vancouver Canucks, or any other team around the league, want to bring Alex Formenton in, they'll need to acquire his rights from the Ottawa Senators as he remains a restricted free agent at the NHL level.
Fans on social media have made their feelings known about the matter, with several expressing that they will not be happy or even watch the team anymore if they were to trade for and sign Formenton in the near future.
"Formenton would be such a terrible decision in Vancouver." @payfray."
"How do I tell the Canucks decision makers to leave Alex Formenton out of our community." @Crscndo_v2 said.
"If the Canucks actually sign Formenton then that will be incredibly disappointing, and as anyone with a brain can tell, will not go well" @Jarrzh said.
Nothing appears imminent on the Alex Formenton on this front, but given he isn't performing very well overseas, it's hard to envision that a return to the NHL is in the cards this season.
