The Vancouver Canucks have another two years of with dealing with the superstar of the league in their Pacific Division, as Connor McDavid signed a two year extension with the Edmonton Oilers.

McDavid signed for $12.5M AAV, and the short bridge deal is probably to sign a much larger one, once the salary cap goes up.
"During a recent episode of Sekeres and Price, Blake Price wondered if Quinn Hughes could be looking at $20 million annually on his next contract based on deals signed by other defensemen around the league recently."-Jaxon

Connor McDavid signs two year extension for the Edmonton Oilers.

Tyson Cole of Canucks Army, reported on the extension for McDavid, it is definitely a much shorter term than many expected, but it could be due to a massive deal in two years time for McDavid, and uncertainty for the future of the team.
"McDavid, 28, is entering the final year of his eight-year, $100 million contract he signed in 2018. The 2015 first-overall pick has played all 712 career games as an Oilers, and his 1,082 points have him 71st on the NHL all-time points list."-Cole

The $12.5 million is definitely a discount, as McDavid has led his team to back to back Stanley Cup finals, and is arguably the best player to ever play the game. But the Oilers still couldn't get the job done, and that is for sure playing in the back of McDavid's mind. He cannot be the greatest player of all time without a Stanley Cup, and there is definitely doubt creeping in whether the Oilers can ever get it done during his time there.
"While Canucks fans would prefer to see McDavid leave the Pacific Division, his two-year term is somewhat positive, as he could be on the move if the Oilers aren't successful in lifting Lord Stanley before his contract is up."-Cole

This could also spell further trouble for Quinn Hughes, who is also rumoured to jump ship at the end of his contract, while other rumours suggest he'll near the $18M level. Only time will tell what both superstars end up doing.
