Linus Karlsson will be sticking around with the Vancouver Canucks after putting pen to paper on a contract extension on Friday.

Vancouver Canucks prospect Linus Karlsson has been on a tear in the American Hockey League this season, setting an Abbotsford Canucks franchise record as their all-time leading goal scorer earlier this week.
His strong play this season and the good impression he made during his nine games with Vancouver in 2024-25 have earned the 25-year-old centerman a contract extension.

Vancouver Canucks announce contract extension for Linus Karlsson

In a post on X on Friday morning, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they've agreed to terms on a one-year, one-way contract for the 2025-26 season worth $775,000 with Linus Karlsson.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin commented on the signing, saying that Karlsson has worked hard down in the AHL and has proven to them that he's capable of competing in the National Hockey League.
"Linus has worked very hard on his development the past few seasons in Abbotsford and has also shown he can compete at the NHL level. He has good size and hands around the net, and we really like the way he competes on the ice." Allvin said.

Karlsson was set to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights this summer and will now be looking forward to a big opportunity in training camp in September with the Canucks where he'll try to make their opening night roster.
With Karlsson's contract being one-way next season, this means that he'll be making the same amount ($775K) regardless if he's in the NHL or AHL, something he's earned and is likely very happy about.
The Eksjo, Sweden native joined the Vancouver Canucks organization in February 2019 after a trade with San Jose Sharks and made the jump to North America ahead of the 2022-23 season.
In 28 games this season with Abbotsford, Karlsson has 32 points (19 goals, 13 assists), 22 penalty minutes and is a plus-11.
At the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, Karlsson's free agent status becomes complex as there's a chance he will be classified as a Group 6 UFA, if certain conditions are met including - being 25+, completed 3 or more professional seasons, has a contract expiring, and has played less than 80 NHL Games.
