New Report Has Canucks Acquiring Minnesota Wild Star After His Controversial Comments Come to the Surface
As the Vancouver Canucks continue to evaluate their options for their roster this summer, another potential second line centerman has emerged for Patrik Allvin to consider.
While the Vancouver Canucks are currently focused on searching for their next head coach
following Rick Tocchet's departure last week, Patrik Allvin is going to have his hands full this summer as he looks to turn things around and get the club back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2026.
One area the team needs to address in the offseason is the second line center hole, which if the new campaign began today, that would be occupied by
Filip Chytil, but
some options have begun to emerge including a pending restricted free agent on the Minnesota Wild.
Minnesota Wild RFA Marco Rossi could be great fit for Vancouver Canucks
Among the names that have been mentioned for Vancouver's second line center role in recent weeks include
Trevor Zegras of the Anaheim Ducks,
Pavel Zacha of the Boston Bruins and even former Canuck
Jared McCann, who is currently with the Seattle Kraken.
Over the coming weeks and months, more names will continue to pop up and one player to potentially keep an eye on is Marco Rossi of the Minnesota Wild, who is set to become a restricted free agent on July 1st.
Rossi had a breakout year for the Wild in his second full season in the National Hockey League, registering 60 points (24 goals, 36 assists) in 82 games - a jump of 20 points from the 2023-24 campaign.
During Minnesota's first round series against the Vegas Golden Knights, Rossi was reduced to a fourth-line role, something he told head coach John Hynes he wasn't happy about, but understood and respected his decision.
The Feldkirch, Austria native, who reportedly turned down a five-year extension earlier this season, told the media that he has no doubt in his mind that he is a top-six player.
"I've showed all year long how good I am. And (going) from 40 points to 60 points this year. And anyone who knows me, it's always going up and I always improve, and especially with my work ethic. So I've (got) no doubt, I'm for sure a top-six guy." Rossi said according to Michael Russo and Joe Smith of The Athletic.
Now, there are two ways the Vancouver Canucks could land Marco Rossi, both of which would come at varying costs to the club with the first being through a trade.
Trading for Marco Rossi would likely start with Vancouver's first round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, which is locked into 15th overall and beyond that, it could cost Patrik Allvin a prospect and another draft pick.
The other option for the Canucks is to submit an offer sheet to Marco Rossi and depending on how much the average annual value of that contract is, it would cost Vancouver a certain amount of draft picks.
According to
According to AFP Analytics, Marco Rossi is projected to earn $4.54 million AAV on a short term contract and $7.38 million AAV on a longer term deal.
Vancouver wouldn't be able to submit an offer sheet at anything higher than $4.58 million AAV because they don't have the draft picks needed in order for compensation, making it more likely that Patrik Allvin would need to go down a trade route, if he wanted to land Marco Rossi.
