Rick Tocchet Officially Interviews with Two Western Conference Teams and the Canucks Aren't Happy
Former Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet has reportedly spoken to a pair of Western Conference teams regarding their coaching vacancies just over a week after officially leaving the team.
It's been just over a week since
Rick Tocchet left the Vancouver Canucks to pursue new opportunities and the team's management group of Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford are continuing to work to find the 22nd head coach in franchise history.
There are currently eight head coaching vacancies in the National Hockey League, including Vancouver, and it appears that Rick Tocchet has already begun speaking with at least two teams, one of which has reportedly interviewed him.
Two Western Conference team have spoken with Rick Tocchet
During an appearance on Halford and Brough on Wednesday, Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff said that he believes Rick Tocchet has interviewed with the Seattle Kraken.
Despite the interview with the Kraken, Frank Seravalli added that it would likely be a longshot to see Rick Tocchet be named Seattle's next head coach.
The Seattle Kraken aren't the only team in the Western Conference or Pacific Division for that matter to speak with Rick Tocchet
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic is reporting that the Anaheim Ducks have reached out, but it's unclear if it will lead to an interview or not.
"My understanding is the Ducks have also had some communication with Rick Tocchet, so we'll see whether that leads to an interview." LeBrun said.
One team that many believe is the favourite to land
many believe is the favorite to land Rick Tocchet is the Philadelphia Flyers, the team he spent parts of 11 seasons with as a player and even captained them for half of the 1991-92 season before being traded to Pittsburgh.
LeBrun shared that while the Philadelphia Flyers haven't reached out to speak with Rick Tocchet as of Tuesday, it's believed that'll happen before the end of the week.
"As of Tuesday, my understanding is that the Flyers had not reached out on Rick Tocchet, but I expect that will happen before the end of the week. The Canucks last weekend told his camp that they can speak directly to teams without clubs needing to reach out to Vancouver for permission. That should help smooth out the process. Tocchet's contract with the Canucks expires June 30." LeBrun said.
It looks like the interest is certainly there from teams around the National Hockey League and it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone if Rick Tocchet is back behind the bench this fall.
