A couple of NHL insider have revealed which Vancouver Canucks prospect has a better chance of making the team's opening night roster in early October.

Vancouver Canucks training camp is set to get underway in a little over a month and there are going to be an number of intriguing battles to keep an eye on when things get going in Penticton on September 18th.
With a bit of a logjam among the forward group, there aren't many spots available on the opening night roster and the fact a number of Vancouver Canucks prospects having their waiver status change this summer, it could lead to some very tough decisions towards the end of camp.

Insiders debate which Vancouver Canucks prospect will make the opening night roster

Arshdeep Bains, Max Sasson, Linus Karlsson and Vitali Kravtsov are all vying for a spot on the Vancouver Canucks' opening night roster, and while there's no question those four all have the ability to be full-time NHLers, there may only be room for one of them.
During a recent edition of Reach Deep on Sportsnet 650 radio in Vancouver, Dan Riccio and Randip Janda discussed who they think has the better chance of making the team's opening night roster in October - Linus Karlsson or Arshdeep Bains.
"With Bains, what I find with him is that I think the playoffs last year, the final two rounds, that's the player he can be. He's a very gifted passer, very gifted playmaker and when he's able to use his speed, when he started to play confident and he attacks that center of the ice where he's able to make plays in tight. He's not going to be a huge goal scorer, we've seen that in the AHL, but is he in a position to get inside and also make those plays in tight, be an excellent passer. That's why, if he's able to bring that to the NHL level, maybe not as consistently because it is a tougher league, I think he's got an inside track on showing that 'hey, i can improve year-to-year.' Janda said about Bains.

When discussing Linus Karlsson, he added, "The other player is Linus Karlsson, a big player, can play a heavier game, a sticky game, not necessarily a belter by any stretch in the imagination. He's not going to drill you with hits, but he's intelligent. He knows where his bread is buttered in this league and that's in front of the net. In the AHL, what we saw with him when Arsh was that, Arsh was hitting him with some unbelievable passes, but you need to get to that area and Linus is very good at that. So, I think those are the two guys that are really at the top two for me."

Janda believes that it could be Arshdeep Bains that comes out on top of the battle for a roster spot with Linus Karlsson, but he needs to be a bit quicker and eventually, add more muscle to his frame, which is something that he very well could've done this offseason.
"If I had to pick one, I think, one area that if Arshdeep can improve this year is if he can get there a little quicker. We saw an improvement in speed last year. If you're just a little bit better and if you add a little bit of muscle to your frame, he's a little tougher to play against when it comes to having that thickness so to speak. I think that's going to do wonder for him at the NHL level, but that's what he's got to do in the lead up to next year." Janda said.
Bains and Karlsson are more than capable of being a bottom-six forward for the Vancouver Canucks and if everything goes in Patrik Allvin's favor and one of them makes it now, while the other clears waivers, there's always a chance they both could be on the NHL roster together later in the season if injuries arise.
