Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford admitted recently that a trade is certainly possible this summer amid the team's crowded crease.

The Vancouver Canucks surprised many earlier this week when they officially locked up Thatcher Demko to a three-year contract extension worth $25.5 million US, which kicks in ahead of the 2026-27 season and will keep the netminder in British Columbia until the summer of 2029.
With Thatcher Demko around for the next four years and Kevin Lankinen signing a five-year extension back in February, it's led to questions about the future of Latvian goaltender Arturs Silovs, who very well could find his way out of town at some point this summer.

Jim Rutherford reveals trade is possible amid Vancouver's crowded crease

This spring, Vancouver Canucks prospect Arturs Silovs was lights out in the Calder Cup Playoffs, leading Abbotsford to their first-ever championship, while being named postseason MVP for his efforts, putting up an impressive .931 save percentage and five shutouts in 24 games.
Arturs Silovs showed throughout the Calder Cup Playoffs that his time in the American Hockey League should be coming to a close and that he's ready for a full-time role in the National Hockey League, however, it doesn't appear that'll be in Vancouver.
The Riga, Latvia native is waiver eligible this fall and there's almost a zero percent chance that he would not be claimed and because of this, combined with the fact there's no spot for him in Vancouver, it looks like a trade could be a possibility this summer.
During an appearance on The Fan Hockey Show on Sportsnet radio, Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford admitted that there's a chance they could have to move Arturs Silovs this summer, saying that he's the odd man out and it's something they're going to have to deal with in the weeks ahead.
"We've got things lined up here. Our plan going forward, right now, is to go with Demko and Lankinen. As well as Silovs played, he could be the odd guy out.

He's not waiver exempt anymore. So, we're going to have to deal with that here in the offseason, but we feel very fortunate where we are with goaltenders." Rutherford said.

There's no question that right now, Arturs Silovs' trade value is pretty high and with the goalie market pretty much dried up in terms of free agency, it could make him a pretty attractive piece for teams looking for a backup netminder ahead of the 2025-26 season.
If the Vancouver Canucks do end up considering a trade for Arturs Silovs, who has one-year left on his contract with a cap hit of $850K, some potential landing spots include the Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights.
