An intriguing center option could be available to the Vancouver Canucks and General Manager Patrik Allvin for free this fall towards the end of training camp.

It's been a very busy summer for Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin with the club making three noteworthy trades, acquiring Evander Kane from the Edmonton Oilers while dealing away Arturs Silovs and Dakota Joshua to the Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs, respectively.
The offseason is far from over, with roughly seven-and-a-half weeks to go until training camp begins and reports suggest that the Vancouver Canucks aren't done adding to their roster and that they're still in the market for a centerman.
"It may be mid-summer, but #Canucks management isn't "off to the cottage" just yet.

Hear the club is monitoring a couple of the UFA options still on the market. No surprise given their recent history.

VAN needs to move out cap dollars first, + they're actively working to do so." Thomas Drance of The Athletic said early last week.

Vancouver Canucks may have intriguing center available to them for free this fall

One way that the Vancouver Canucks could make an addition to their team for the start of the 2025-26 season is through the waiver wire, which is usually quite active in the last few days of training camp before opening night rosters are officially submitted to the National Hockey League.
Every year, there are always a number of solid options available through waivers at the tail end of training camp and in an article on Canucks Army this week, Stephan Roget examined a number of potential options the team could have available to them in early October.
Among the names mentioned by Roget in his article is Nikita Alexandrov of the St. Louis Blues, who turns 25 just before training camp and has 51 games of NHL experience under his belt.
Alexandrov, a former second round pick of the Blues, had a career-year down in the American Hockey League with the Springfield Thunderbirds, registering 49 points (21 goals, 28 assists) in 48 games, before going point-less in three Calder Cup Playoff appearances.
The 24-year-old is currently a restricted free agent and if he's signed by the club ahead of training camp, there's a good chance he could end up on the waiver wire and would be available for free to the Canucks and other teams around the league.
"The Russian forward establishes his reputation with his feet and is said to possess a lot of speed in his game, as well as a willingness to utilize it at both ends. He's really figured out the goal-scoring and playmaking at the AHL level, and there is potential for him to display that at the next level, too - so long as he gets under contract (uncertain) and then hits waivers (pretty likely)." Roget said.

As things stand right now, it's unclear what the Blues' plan is for Nikita Alexandrov and whether or not he'll stay in North America this coming season, but if he does and lands on waivers, he's a player that Patrik Allvin should absolutely consider placing a claim on.
