After a steep cup run last year, the Flames were pushed to the extreme when two of the team's top players left town. Matthew Tkachuk forced his way out while Johnny Gaudreau left for free agency.
Some could argue that Treliving worked it out great acquiring Jonathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar, and Nazem Kadri to fill the void. It clearly wasn't enough as the team failed to buy their way into the playoffs and now the Flames have released this official statement:
The latest rumblings out of Calgary were that there was a major discord between the team's coach, Darryl Sutter, and some of the team's stars. However, per Frank Seravalli's beliefs, the thought is that Sutter will remain the bench boss for now:
The Flames disappointed, Jacob Markstrom went from elite to below average, and Jonathan Huberdeau went from being amongst the league's top wingers to an average player. Perhaps the coaching strategy is a cause? Will have to wait a little longer before having clarity on this one.
