Last night, the Canadiens' forward and former Vancouver Giant laid a massive open-ice hit that awarded him a five-minute major and a game misconduct.
Everybody expected it: the NHL Player Safety called Gallagher regarding this particular sequence and later issued a statement confirming that he'd been suspended for the next five games:
Brendan Gallagher has been suspended five games for an illegal check to the head of Adam Pelech by @NHLPlayerSafety. Gallagher will forfeit nearly $170,000 in salary.
