The Canucks acquired Ethan Bear in a trade with the Canes for a 5th Round Selection earlier this season and it's fair to say he's been a steal since then.

His impact on the team's defensive core was immediate and he took big minutes. The Canucks have just acquired Filip Hronek who's expected to take pressure off of Bear, but the two will definitely solidify the team's right side. Thing is, Bear's contract comes to an end on July 1st and he will then be a restricted free agent.

His agent, Jason Davidson, was recently on Donnie and Dhali and revealed precious information on the player's future:

"We have not spoken since All-Star game, sometimes when you do not agree you tend to shut it down. It will be a 1 or 3-year deal, Ethan is ok with a 1-year deal."

The defenseman has previously inked a one-year, $2.2M deal for the current season and now the fact that it may only be another one-year deal could cause a problem. Bear will have complete autonomy once his next contract ends and if the Canucks see a future for him they sure need to lock him up for the three years.

It'll be interesting moving forward how Allvin manages to sign him, the ongoing rate for right-handed shot defenseman is quite high at this point and the Canucks are definitely in a tough spot money-wise.

Bear was an Oilers' 5th Round Pick back in 2015 and counts 61 points in 236 NHL outings.
