LATEST | Superstar facing potential discipline from league?
It is a well-known fact across the NHL that the discipline for a player intentionally skipping the All-Star game results in a single-game suspension. Alex Ovechkin has famously been a casualty of this. No player intentionally skipped the All-Star weekend in Toronto this season, but some fans called for disciplinary action against the player.
That one player is the NHL's league leader in points and Lightning superstar forward Nikita Kucherov. He was the recipient of a shower of boos from the Toronto crowd after fans noticed his lacklustre effort in Friday's skills competition:
"Been thinking about Kucherov and his performance all day.
I understand he's somewhat forced to go. I know he'll be suspended or fined or whatever.
But this is a 45-second drill. And it's about the kids watching at home.
Do better.
League representatives are reportedly very upset with Kucherov for his lack of effort, and time will tell if his actions are deemed suspension-worthy by the league. He entered the All-Star break with a whopping 85 points.
