22-year-old Vasily Podkolzin has already appeared in 118 games in the National Hockey League, 79 in 2021-22 and 39 in 2022-23, so spending the entire season in the AHL so far must be frustrating.

But instead of hanging his head and feeling sorry for himself, Podkolzin has used it as an opportunity to grow and his effort level has caught the attention of his General Manager, Ryan Johnson.

Johnson said recently that the Canucks organization is very excited about Podkolzin and that his future is very bright. He went on to add that he's got a great attitude and they want him to play a more risky game and to use his strength and power.

"great kid, great attitude, we want him to play more risky, drop shoulder, take it to the net, with his strength & power, he's really dangerous, we are really excited about him as an organization, we think his future is extremely bright"

Podkolzin, a native of Moscow, Russia, has put up 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists), 13 penalty minutes and is a plus-three in 35 games with Abbotsford.

While Canucks fans would certainly like to see Podkolzin back in the NHL as soon as possible, it probably makes more sense to have him develop in the AHL and finish the season there. Barring any injuries, the Canucks aren't in need of anyone from Abbotsford at this time, but he could be one of the first players called up, if needed.
