I was committed to only being positive today, in light of the Sedin Twins & Roberto Luongo being inducted into the HHOF. Well, I also promised you non hockey stories on off days & this seems to check the boxes, even though the end result is a season ending loss.
The BC Lions were a win away from the Grey Cup on Sunday when they stepped into the frozen tundra of IG Field in southern Manitoba.
After a tough first half where they found themselves down 19-8, the Lions bounced back in the second half, outscoring the Bombers 12-10 but the damage was done. The final read 28-20, setting the stage for an all East battle for the Grey Mug between the Toronto Argonauts & Winnipeg BlueBombers, going down this Sunday November 20th at Mosaic Field in Regina.
To his credit, Lions' QB Nathan Rourke offered more of the same in terms of effort, execution & emotion. Rourke was injured late in the season, coming back to play a single quarter of action in the season finale before beating up the Stampeders at BC Place last weekend.
He gave it his all & was left visibly overcome with emotion as the final buzzer sounded.
It's fair to say that owner Amar Doman has struck gold this season between the emergence of Nathan Rourke & the energy around the city.
He's a hands on owner, committed to enveloping Vancouver with a football buzz, he is present in the community & a pleasure to listen to. He's all the things we are currently looking for in an Owner for this Canucks' team, yet each of those characteristics remain completely MIA.
It'll be an eventful off season, as anticipation for next season is already cranking up, the major question being, will Nathan Rourke return for his 3rd year of the 3 year deal he inked 2 seasons ago.
I have to think that, along with keeping the momentum up, Rourke is at the top of Mr. Doman's to do list. Hey Francesco, you might want to take some notes bud.
