MAJOR: Bruins succeeding where the Canucks aren't
The Canucks' struggles are heavily discussed among the Canadian media since they were expected to make a run for the playoffs and extended their captain Bo Horvat. Though with the 2022 half of the season completed, neither are about to happen unless the wind blows in a completely different direction for them.
The Bruins found themselves in a similar position at the beginning of the season. With an aging core and their top player's (
David Pastrnak) contract coming to an end, they were also expected to make things happen.
Recent news out of Boston indicates that Pastrnak will soon ink his name on an eight-year deal worth approximately $88M.
Not only are they on the right track to re-sign their star forward, who has 50 points in 36 games (25 goals), but they've also found a way to completely dominate the NHL with their new coach, Jim Montgomery. They currently have an impressive 28-4-4 record and a record-breaking 18-0-3 tenure at home in the TD Garden.
The Canucks are the exact opposite, Bo Horvat currently has more goals under his belt than the Bruins' winger. They've failed to stay over the .500 mark with a 16-17-3 record since the beginning of the season and their record at home is atrocious earning only seven wins after 17 games at Rogers Arena.
The management group in Vancouver will definitely have to shake things up because the team's most recent efforts are definitely not enough and the fans have endured more than their fair share.
