The Calgary Flames were trying to keep their eyes on a playoff spot Saturday night, facing off with the Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche at Denver's Ball Arena.
The Flames are currently fifth in the Pacific Division four points behind the Seattle Kraken. The Avalanche would take it to the Flames, building up a 3-0 lead in the second period. That's when Flames forward Milan Lucic would try to get Calgary to wake up by getting physical with Avalanche players.
This would cause the Avalanche resident tough guy Kurtis MacDermid to challenge Lucic to a heavyweight tilt. MacDermid started off well but would see stars after getting clobbered by Lucic.
It looked like Lucic's tactic worked with the Flames Tyler Toffoli getting the Flame on the board. But unfortunately for the Flames, that's as close as they got Saturday as the Avalanche would score another goal and took this one by a score of 4-1.
