REPORT | Insider links the Canucks to a pending free agent: an experienced NHLer and Vancouver Native
Patrik Allvin will be looking to find the best option to center his third line. Since none of the prospects in the pipeline can occupy that role in a playoff competitive team, Allvin will be looking at free-agency or trade targets to fill that void.
Darren Dreger drew an obvious link between the Canucks and a Vancouver Native who'd been playing with the Leafs for the last few years, Alex Kerfoot. It's most North-American players' dream to play for their hometown team when given the chance, and now everything may be lining up for the two parties to come to an agreement.
Now 28 years old, Kerfoot developed his game with the Coquitlam Express of the BCHL, where he was drafted in the 5th Round of the 2012 NHL Draft. He then committed 4 years at Harvard University before he graduated to the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche. He spent the last few years with the Leafs, where he managed a career-high 51 points in 82 games; he managed 32 this season in a diminished role due to the team's acquisition of Sam Lafferty and Ryan O'Reilly.
His contract comes to an end on July 1st, and it seems the Leafs won't be renewing their contract with the centerman. Described as such:
''At 5'10», he will always have to overcome issues of size and strength. He compensates with sound skills in all three zones, a good hockey IQ and the versatility to play anywhere up front (and in all-game situations). His playmaking skills are solid, and he is enough of a shooter that opponents cannot lay off of him and jam the passing lanes.''

Kerfoot possibly represents the 'ideal' 3rd line centerman in today's fast-paced game. Should Allvin try and persuade Kerfoot to come and play for his hometown team?
