Sekeres reveal who his top candidates for the coaching job are and the conversation is about to heat up
The Canucks had a terrible season start, and while some were expecting them to bounce back like they did last year, it hasn't happened. Now the subject of the hour is whether or not, Bruce Boudreau loses his job before the end of his contract which ends this season.
The team has been heavily linked to former Stanley Cup winner Rick Tocchet, who was victorious by Mike Sullivan's side in Pittsburgh, who most recently coached OEL and Garland in Arizona before his job was taken over by Andre Tourigny.
Matt Sekeres decided to take part in the exercise and listed his top candidates for the job. Although Rick Tocchet was part of his list, it wasn't his preferred option, here's what he said on the matter:
«Have never gotten the fascination with Tocchet. Liked what Brunette did with Florida, and believe him an up-and-coming coach. Colliton has done a good job with Abby.
But the #Canucks need stability, structure, and professionalism and that screams Barry Trotz.»
Although it doesn't seem like Colliton is considered for the job in Vancouver he doesn't keep him out of the conversation and he lists Andrew Brunette and Barry Trotz as the two other candidates. He even adds that Trotz would fit in perfectly with what the Canucks need right and you can't disagree.
When he took over in New York he made them one of the soundest defensive teams and we still see it up to this day even after he left. He won the cup back in Washington where he transformed the long-time elite scorer
Alexander Ovechkin into one of the top leaders and captains in the league.
Brunette on his part isn't one to forget, he had an impressive first season behind the Panthers bench. One could argue that they were a stacked team, but still, the numbers they put up were way too impressive to not give the coach some credit.
We know for sure Boudreau's not going to be back next year and the way things are going, it's even expected that he won't finish the season. Who's your pick to take over?
