WATCH: 2nd game behind the bench and Tocchet rips the team in his post-game comments
The Canucks played great in Tocchet's first game against the Blackhawks. His
second game in Seattle was a completely different story.
Rick Tocchet faced the media after a disappointing 6-1 lost to the Kraken. The Canucks' first loss to the Seattle franchise for that matter. He did not hold back when he was asked to comment on the team's performance:
«That's a good team right there, , but wooo that was bad. I thought that was bad, Soft, you know, you hate to call your team soft, but it was soft tonight.»
Obviously, the coach rarely goes out to the media after a 6-1 loss stating that the team played great. He continued and added that he'd wished that he and the coaching had had 10 more practices and that tonight's counter-performance shows that there's a lot of work to be done still.
«Nobody wants the puck, , from what I was told this group has a tough time putting back-to-back, you know, predictable Hockey or, you know good efforts together. We got a long way to go.»
In the later stages of the interview, the coach took part of the blame:
«I kind of shoot myself. I had a gut feeling to put 2 or 3 other guys in the line-up. Just maybe to be some fresh legs and I didn't so that's kind of maybe my fault.»
He ended the interview by stating that he had been testing certain players' patience, to see if frustration would kick in and if they'd start arguing with each other. That's certainly a strategy I haven't heard of before, but I guess it's a good way to see what your guys are made of.
The one thing that will most likely stick around is the last comment he made about the team and the leadership:
«We need to get that leadership group stronger, more resilient, the team obviously»
Wow, perhaps the rumors about this locker being dysfunctional aren't false after all? Do you think Tocchet can take care of the issues he pointed out and make a winning group out of these players?
