LATEST | Devastating news for Montreal Canadiens' Head Coach: Announces sudden leave of absence
The Montreal Canadiens surprised the hockey world on Saturday evening when they announced that head coach Martin St. Louis would be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team. Assistant coach Trevor Letowski will assume coaching duties in the interim.
St. Louis, who scored over 1,000 points during his illustrious NHL career, was hired by Montreal in February of 2022 following the firing of Dominique Ducharme. The team has a record of 70-95-21 since.
While the reasons surrounding the leave were a mystery following the announcement, it appears as though Canadiens defenseman David Savard has spoken out regarding the reasons for the leave.
We're going to try to win this for his son.
- David Savard, Montreal Canadiens
It's obviously different with Marty not being here. We have a good group in here, lot of good coaches. It was business as usual. But obviously we're missing him and wishing for the best.
- Nick Suzuki, Montreal Canadiens Captain
St. Louis, a 2018 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, has three sons Ryan (20), Lucas (18), and Mason (16).
On MSL: looks like his son Lucas played last night for Dubuque, hopefully it's a sign that whatever has happened to Mason or Ryan is not life-threatening.
We wish him and his family the best and hope for a positive outcome.
