Patrik Allvin has been known to be aggressive on the trade market in hopes of improving his team. It's common knowledge that they've been on the lookout for a right-handed defenseman, but they've been at every option on the market to improve the team like they did when they added Sam Lafferty earlier in the season.
The Devils' GM is looking for a way to spark his team after they haven't been playing up to expectations since the season started. According to sources close to the team, the Devils would be involved in talks surrounding their First Round Draft selection from the 2016 draft:
In his attempt to retool this team, Rutherford and Allvin admitted that they'd be looking at players in their mid-20s who had yet to play up to their full potential. McLeod has established himself in the NHL as an excellent bottom six centerman who excels on faceoff dots and has a knack for scoring.
McLeod has 14 points through the first 35 games this season. He leads the team in faceoff percentage and differential (+8). Should the Canucks be intrigued by McLeod? He carries a $1.4M cap hit until the end of the current season, when he'll be a restricted free agent.
