TRADE ALERT | It's confirmed for the former Giants' defenseman Bowen Byram: He's been traded in a blockbuster
Friday, March 8th marks the NHL trade deadline. Despite being two full days away, Wednesday sparked action throughout the league as several notable trades occurred. This included Adam Henrique, Sean Walker, and Ryan Johansen all changing clubs.
However, in a move that shocks the hockey world and comes as a massive surprise, the Colorado Avalanche have sent former 4th overall pick Bowen Byram to the Buffalo Sabres for Casey Mittelstadt, their leading scorer.
Byram, 22, won the Stanley Cup with the Avs in 2022. He has 20 points through 55 games this season after scoring 24 in just 42 games in 2022-23. The BC native has dealt with injuries throughout his young career.
Mittelstadt, drafted 8th overall in 2017, currently leads all Sabres skaters with 47 points in 61 games. He scored a career-high 59 points last season.
The Avalanche also acquired defender Sean Walker on Wednesday to add to their blue line, perhaps to facilitate this blockbuster trade.
