Canucks make an official statement regarding Roberto Luongo
The Canucks posted to their twitter (X) account today. Their post was made about legendary goalie Roberto Luongo, who they will present the Ring of Honour to on Dec 14, against the Florida Panthers.
Roberto Luongo is one of the best goalies of all-time. Luongo was inducted to the hall-of-fame in 2022. The Montreal native played in 21 seasons in the NHL, 8 of them with the Vancouver Canucks.
Luongo performed excellently for the Canucks, backstopping them all the way to the finals in 2011. Luongo was also the captain for the team from 2008-2010.
Luongo's numbers in Vancouver are a reminder of how underrated his career is. The net-minder posted a .919 save percentage and 2.36 GAA with the Canucks.
Luongo was also an Olympian who played in 3 tournaments for Canada. The 44-year-old had a great 2010 tournament, playing in 5 games including the gold medal game where he played outstanding.
Luongo will be honoured on the day the Canucks play the Panthers as he also played 12 years over two stints with the Panthers. On Dec 14th, Luongo will be added to the Canuck's ring of honour and join elite company.
As expected, the announcement is generating mixed reactions among the fanbase. Hopefully everybody can agree on the fact that Luongo, deserves recognition, no matter what it may be.
