LATEST | Canucks forward Elias Pettersson on pace to make NHL history this season
Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson is having another fantastic season so far and is coming off a week where he put up nine points in four games.
Coming into Monday's meeting with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Pettersson had 57 points (22 goals, 35 assists), along with two penalty minutes and is a plus-18 in 43 games.
Pettersson is currently on pace for his second consecutive 100-point season after putting up 102 in 80 games last season. If he's able to do so, Pettersson will make NHL history, as according to Randip Janda, he'd become the first Swedish player in league history to record back-to-back seasons of 100+ points.
"Shocking stat of the day: no Swedish born player has had consecutive 100 point seasons in #NHL history.
Elias Pettersson could be the first. He is on pace for 108 points this season. #Canucks" Janda said.
This is a pretty crazy stat to even think about with the amount of talented Swedish players that have played in the National Hockey League such as Peter Forsberg, Mats Sundin, Daniel Alfredsson, Nicklas Lidstrom, along with the Sedin twins, among others.
It's going to be interesting to see how many points Elias Pettersson finishes with as it will certainly drive up the price for his contract extension, which fans are hoping he'll sign in the near future.
