LATEST | Canucks prospect leaving the team soon: An important statement has been released
According to a report from BelarusHockey.com, Vancouver Canucks prospect Danila Klimovich is drawing interest from one of the top teams in the KHL, Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
Note: the following was translated from Russian.
"The second option is to return to Europe. Dynamo Minsk, I am sure, would not refuse to join the ranks with a talented striker, just like their Moscow teammates, whose general director Sergei Sushko is well acquainted with Danila's abilities from the time when he was just beginning to make his first successes in children's and youth hockey. There was also information about interest in the natural goal scorer on the part of Magnitogorsk Metallurg."
Klimovich, 21, is having a rough season so far due to injury and being a healthy scratch on a few occasions, which have only allowed him to play in nine games with the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks, where he hasn't recorded any points.
Despite playing in the AHL for the previous two seasons, the Pinsk, Belarus native is currently in the first year of his entry-level contract after the first two years slid, meaning he'll now be on his ELC until after the 2025-26 campaign.
It's unclear at this time what Klimovich plans to do after the 2023-24 season. His goal will certainly be to make the Vancouver Canucks roster one day, but if he has a European Assignment Clause in his contract, then it's possible he goes over to the KHL for his development. However, the Canucks will likely do everything in their power to try and avoid that scenario.
